1. If the U.K. ratifies the upcoming E.U. constitution, the U.K. will have less internal autonomy than that enjoyed by the individual states of the U.S.A. relative to the federal government.
2. Between the peoples of the European Union there is more that divides them (culture, customs, language and history) than that which unites them (geography).
3. Between the English speaking peoples there is more that unites them (culture, customs, language and history) than that which divides them (geography).
4. The "Drive The Flag" campaigners want to see the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland leave the E.U. and be a free independent country as she was in 1971.
Notwithstanding this, consider this hypothetical scenario;
Suppose, just for the sake of argument, some great global conspiracy forced the U.K. to make one of two choices;
- Stay in the European Union and cease to become an independent state.
- Join a "Union of English Speaking Peoples" comprising;
Australia (Land Area; 2,940,521 sq. mls Pop. 18,783,551 GDP; US $ 357 bn 2001)
Canada (Land Area; 3,559,294 sq. mls Pop. 31,006,347 GDP; US $ 700 bn 2001)
Irish Republic (Land Area; 26,598 sq. mls Pop. 3,632,944 GDP; US $ 102 bn 2001)
New Zealand (Land Area; 103,707 sq. mls Pop. 3,662,265 GDP; US $ 49 bn 2001)
United Kingdom (Land Area; 93,254 sq. mls Pop. 59,113,439 GDP; US $ 1430 bn 2001)
United States (Land Area; 3,535,359 sq. mls Pop. 272,639,608 GDP; US $ 10208 bn 2001)
TOTAL; Land Area; 10,258,733 sq. mls Pop. 388,838,154 GDP; US $ 12,846 bn 2001
NOTE; If we had to join a supra national confederacy (and we don't want to) the union of English speaking peoples would be a very much better choice. In fact, if one assumed that the countries would in effect join the U.S.A. with each of the five Australian states, each of the ten Canadian provinces, and with England broken into the nine E.U. regions each becoming states of the union, along with the following each a state of the union, a united Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales there would be an additional 56 U.S. senators (2 per state) and a significant number (pro rata no. by pop. of congressmen) - we would have far more influence that we ever will in the E.U.!
Were such a union formed we would have the great satisfaction that such would infuriate the French ! - and terrify the Germans !
